Kent State Protest
The topic I've selected was an event that struck American history, the Kent State Protest may 4, 1970 where a simple march of college students who strike against President Nixon's Plan against Cambodian Campaign which was to send troops to fight in the Vietnam War. During the protest at Kent State University campus the student receive a shooting of the National Guardsmen killing 4 and wounding 9 students. Therefore the reason why i chose this topic was because this event is something important to bring back to learn about. As I learned more about this, it showed me something important that the society and what people faced was so different to now days. All people cared for was power and being on top of the list or rank but these brave students stood out for going against it because fighting all of the time resulted to a worse problem. Although they were stopped they still gave a message to me explaining that we don't need war.
The order of my genre project is a mix of creative stories and art work. Starting off with short story of a eye witness account who describes what it was like. Second is a copy of an actual poster from a poster that related to the response of Kent State Shooting. The one after that is a picture book of a normal cat (Student) in school (Kent State University) where he goes through the same process what real students who went on strike had to face in the Kent State Shooting. The next one is a small to do list of a student who will strike in the Kent State Protest. The final one is a letter of a college student who writes a letter to his mother where he is afraid of something bad might happen the next day when he will strike for the Kent State Protest. After all the most favorite genre i enjoyed creating was the letter because it made me feel like if i was the student witting the letter to my own mom.
I personally believe I did well in my research because I went through many primary and secondary sources which then put all the information in my own piece. As the more I researched, the more I learned of my topic but most importantly I learned what life was to life in the 1970.
For all reader viewing this page, I want them to not only understand what Kent State Shooting was all about. But to take the knowledge of how our world was in the 1970 and what people are capable of doing to make a better change in society. The thing ill carry with me is the remembrance of these brave people who risked everything to strike against something that is totally bad for our future generations because it changed me to believe in to change something that won't work well. Since there is other thousands of idea of fixing something.
